While visiting Vancouver BC I was able to catch some of the filming of The XFiles on Monday afternoon. David Duchovny was filming a scene in the Gaslamp area of town on Cambie Street across from Victory Park. It was outisde a building that they had filmed in the previous week. They also used the alley between the buildings. Gillian Anderson has already returned to London as the XFiles filming is on a short hiatus July 1-8.
The scene involved David walking down the front steps of an office building, then turning into the alley and meeting with two other actors. The man and woman actors greeted him and he showed them his badge. He was wearing a white shirt and tie with a grey suit. It was a very warm day for outdoors shooting and he did look a bit hot at times. He spent some time between filming on his phone and removed his jacket whenever possible.
The production crew took advantage of the “tent city” which was across the street in the Victory park. They had spent some time setting it up with tents, mattresses and litter strewn all around the area. It was included in the background for the filming of the scene. They also used a couple of the big screens to control the lighting during the scenes. The water truck was brought in and they sprayed down the roadway near the entrance to the alley. The scene was shot in two parts. The first was with him walking down the steps and stopping at the corner. The second part was him walking from the corner and meeting with the other two actors. They did use stand-ins for all three of them before filming started.
There was a good turn out of fans and some local photographers. At one point one fan yelled “We love you David”, he replied by waving back to the crowd. Although it was a hot afternoon it was interesting to watch them filming here in Vancouver and to see Mulder himself.
UPDATE: The first trailer is out by FOX for the Xfiles 2016. I noticed that in the trailer there is a quick glimpse of this scene which I saw them filming. You can see David D. and woman and man actor behind him. You can also see the park behind them across the street. Woot!
