Portland Center Stage opened their current play Three Days of Rain last night featuring Sasha Roiz, Silas Weir-Mitchell and Lisa Datz. Yes, two of the actors from GRIMM were on stage together performing to a full house for opening night. After the performance they attended a reception with the audience. Also in the audience was Russell Hornsby and actor Noah Wyle. The play runs in Portland until June 21 and you can purchase tickets online at their website Portland Center Stage.
I knew as soon as I saw two long skinny legs pop up from the end of the bed on stage that there was going to be no GRIMM in sight. I soon took in the different appearance of Silas Weir-Mitchell in the part of Walker with his hair a bit shorter and not wearing any glasses. The first thing I noticed where his piercing eyes always full of expression. The play is the story of three characters and their time inside this one NYC apartment. There is laughter, anguish and a lot of dialogue for them to carry through. The arrival of Pip played by Sasha Roiz, brought a new intensity to the stage. His appearance is a far cry from his character Capt. Renard on GRIMM. The third character played by Lisa Datz is the glue that keeps the two men connected and the story moving along.
I really enjoyed the transformation of the characters from the first half of the play to their counterparts for the last half of the play. It takes a minute to realize they are the same actors in the different roles. The costume designer Alison Heryer did an amazing job with the clothing used for the play. I especially loved the coat that is used on Lisa’s character Nan during the first half. The movement and design of the coat adds greatly to her character.
Whether your a GRIMM fan or not get your tickets soon to enjoy a fun evening at Portland Center Stage.
